Metropol Parasol (Sevilla, 2011)
Today, I would like to talk about a super interesting building in Séville, the Metropol Parasol, also known as "Las Setas de Sevilla".
The Metropol Parasol is a large wood structure with a height of 28m and it stands on six pillars. It is located in the Casco Antiguo and was built between 2005 and 2011. The building was designed and proposed by Jürgen Hermann Mayer, a German architect from Berlin. This project appeared in 2004 after Seville's municipality threw a contest as a way to reform the site's square.

This project was chosen from sixty-five proposed projects.
The building does have a very unusual pattern and it is very different from traditional buildings. It is a quite abstract structure.
It was built out of 3400 pieces of wood and it covers around 11000 square meters. It is so interesting to see how architects became almost completely free with the designs, materials and overall projects they make, and how nowadays no one really follows a specific pattern anymore. What do you think?
